Why Are Golf Shoes Designed To Be So Hard To Tell On TV?
A few miscellaneous Golf Shoes Blog observations on the Open:
[1] Tom Watson (aah!) has to have special shoes with extra attention paid to the comfort and support of his feet as they are not happy bunnies. (That’s on top of his recent hip operation.) What an amazing guy… though he did tire, which was a great shame. (Why does he remind of the rich feller in “Some Like It Hot” who at the end doesn’t care if the Jack Lemon character is a woman or a man. Was his name Osmond?)
[2] Lots of white golf shoes were on show. I didn’t do a strict count but it did seem on the fourth day that white golf shoes had it. A couple of odd ones but the rest were just plain black. Nothing showy or note-worthy.
[3] Nearly everyone without exception had “proper” golf shoes. Is that the sponsors or the golfers’ choice?
[4] Why is so hard to tell what golf shoes they are wearing. Now I’m not a complete expert but I was looking carefully (i.e. more that Joe Public) and the only shoe I could tell for sure, was the 360 wrap on the Adidas Tour golf shoes, because of the three “wrap” stripes. Now that’s branding.
Hey guys, if you’re spending al that money to get them to wear your shoes – then make it obvous who’s golf shoes they are. I will accept commisssions!
