Is this a serious factor in choosing new golf shoes?
When I wrote my summary about how to choose a new pair of golf shoes (see the previous original post ) coming in at number five after comfort, dryness, grip & performance – but before value for money/price) was STYLE & DESIGN.
But I want to return to the topic of colour. Once upon a time brown/tan or black would have been the choice (more than Ford though) and then I’d guess white came in as number 3 colour. Now you can have just about any colour and in many combinations. You can even choose your own logo with a colour combo! You can have silver or gold – and I do like those silver ones!
So how do you choose – and who chooses a golf shoe only by colour? Would it be insensitive to say that ladies probably go more on colour? (To be honest I’ve only ever read one other article on golf shoe colour and that was very specificlly about women’s shoes.) Having said that there are now ladies and men golfers who’s shoes are of note! (Fred!) But turn it round – how many golfers still choose a shoe on comfort or performance alone. I bet most start there and then chose an available colour within that range but that’s just my guess. Certainly style is now a bigger issue than of old.
So when choosing a pair of golf shoes and you consider colour – how do you know what you’ll be wearing unless your golf wardrobe is all in one colour-way. The only doubt in my mind and I’ve sadi this more than once, is what does your colour golf shoe say to the others? Matching is good and sensible: Mismatched may be laughble – if anyone notices! Bright says look at me – but then your game has got to live up to your “watch-me” shoes. Maybe your shoe should just make you comfortable and not hinder your game. The last possibility is that it may at least lift your spirits – and that can only help.
However beware – I also read that the colour of your golf shoe can help the other golf players. How they do that, they didn’t say – but do you want to help you opponent? And surely if it can help, then maybe it can hinder… so you could (if we knew exactly what is meant by this) choose shoes to put them off! Would that be cricket?
