Golf Shoe Advantage – Especially for The 1 Iron…
Apparently Ben Hogan had extra spikes put in his golf shoes for extra grip. Famous for his big and accurate 1 irons, he would have needed the extra purchase on the tee. That make sense except in finding that out, I didn’t find out how many spikes the shoes came with. Or how many extra spikes he had.
The ad on the left is from 1959 and I can only assume that by this time when he had his name on these “Power Driving Golf Shoes” that they too had more spikes than any others as part of their appeal.

I just found the article about the 12 spikes very interesting as I am the only golf shoe manufacturer making a fine leather welted golf shoe with the 12th spike right here in the US. There is a great deal to learn from the Great Ben Hogan.
