Briefly: I just read that a part in an audition demanded blue suede shoes but none were available, so a clever friendly costume designer painted a pair of golf shoes blue and hey presto.

Having looked up an image for blue suede shoes, there doesn’t seem to be a standard (when we were kids we assumed they were “brothel creeper” style) and I certainly don’t have a picture of the ones in queston above.  But I guess that they did.  I didn’t find out if the part was secured by the shoes or not.

Golf Shoes For Babies?

I saw this photo on flickr taken by Erik Rasmussen who kindly provided more information about these curiosities.  Erik tells us that the minigolf shoes as trophies were real leather -some withreal laces. “They felt and looked very, very authentic, except for the fact that they were miniature, about the size that my 6-month-old daughter would wear”.

Apparently they were given as trophies in a tournament Erik played in. “If I hadn’t sucked so badly, I would now have one that I could better photograph for you…but I don’t”. Says Erik ruefully.  Well if you don’t play to win you don’t get golf shoe trophies and your daughter will never get real mini golf shoes, Erik! (Mind you’d have to win two to get the pair – and they might not match!) The photo (on a mobile phone) is the only record we have!

I did wonder if this is technically another use of a golf shoe but they are not really golf shoes… or are they.

I’m sure that I invented the golf shoe planter and I put a post up on the blog back in May.  Now I’ve just seen another pair suspiciously soon after and susiciously imitative – on Golf Blogger.com.  If it was independent then I’m glad to be part of this epidemic – well two in number – but growing.  If it’s a copy I want credit!

Compare the two.  Personally I think my flowers are better, though they are past it now in September.  Mine are on the left.

This lady (Rihanna) is not near a golf course… more like her first course and her main course as she goes to lunch in her white tassled golf shoes/loafers.  Is this a sign of things to come:  Golf Shoes as fashion in the city? Should I put back on my beautiful Callaway Exotic Chev golf shoes (cleats removed) when I go out to lunch today?  Maybe.

Rihanna is not a golfer (as far as I know) but adds a bit of music world singer-model-beauty queen glamour to Golf Shoes Blog pages.  She is a Bajan (from Barbados) so maybe she’s been out on the course at  St James.

There was a story in newsday.com about the golf writers collecting for the US open being all dressed up in golf gear, including olf shoes with the cleats and all.  I thought that I should comment and wrote the response below.

But before you read that let me just say that watching golf is obviously another good use of golf shoes, so it get’s into our “other uses for golf shoes” section – and you can check out parts 1-9, if you wish.

My Comment on the newsday Blog:  “If golf shoes are the best way for a golfer to keep his (or her) feet comfortable and dry all day with a five mile walk and some standing around in between then it’s probably best for the golf writers (and those in the crowd who walk the course) to wear golf shoes too – with one exception perhaps they don’t need the cleats/spikes. I wear golf shoes for non golf activities like [a] walking and [b] business if I take out the spikes and they are smart enough which my best Callaway Exotic Chev’s are in black. Thanks, Tate.

PS A Spectator Shoe (not a golf shoe)…

 … as shown above, happens to be a style of shoe pretty much like a golf shoe.  Principally they have the saddle like a formal shoe (or a saddle golf shoe of course) with a separate piece of leather across the bridge of the foot.  The ones shown here are from StaceyAdms, available through menswearhouse.com at £74.99

You could have seen me at the weekend in my golf shoes at the village fete.  There I was in my Callaway XTT Comps – but otherwise most un-golf-like.

The reason was that I had been recruited to one of tug of war teams and I wanted the maximum grip on the grass – the secret of tugging being the ability to lock your legs straight and hold your position.

The Callaway golf shoes did fantatsically (those in the team without didn’t have the same purchase on the ground).  The team did “fair”. If we’d all had golf shoes on maybe we’d have won the third leg decider!

Boy, did we all ache the next day.  Some of the oppostion had to go home to bed!

Now I have my new Stuburts golf shoes, my old pair which may have seemed to many to be only good for the bin, have found a new use – as flower pots.  (Yes, I am replacing the picture of my golf shoes with the new stuburts – but I also have three new pairs to try!)

Planted today with Alyssum in pink and white, I think they make a pretty addition to any garden!  I can see the craze catching on and adorning golfers’ gardens as well as golf clubs.

Old golf shoes don’t die – they just smell like that!

As regular readers will know, I’m always interested in other uses for golf shoes – though these days this is usually limited to using your old spiked shoes which are not so popular on U golf courses.

So when I saw an article on a prime lawn care website about spiking your lawn with golf shoes  I was grateful that we haven’t yet run out of new uses for your old (or new) golf shoes. 

The article starts…“If your lawn is small or medium sized, a hand aerator machine will do the job with no problem.” Yes but what about the golf shoes… getting closer…” Or, if you prefer to get a good physical workout at the same time, you can invest in a pair of yard aerator sandals. These are simply sandals with spikes on the bottom so that as you walk around your yard or garden, you simultaneously poke holes in it. Of, if you don’t want to do it  yourself, get a pair for your children. They’ll love it.”  And finally… “But any spiky type of shoes will do – even spiked golf shoes”.

Chelsea’s photographed the wedding, following a remarkable tale including a proposal on the 18th green (with the ring in the hole)!  The bride Kelly, was a Minnesota State University golfer and obviously there’s a strong golf thing going on here!

I for one have never seen a wedding dress/golf shoes combo before.

I’ve just seen a picture of about a dozen golf shoes (some trainers maybe) strewn across the grass – not as result of a fit of temper as I first suspected, but as a result of shoe golf.  Not a lot to say about it except to advise that you don’t try it at home if you value your shoes (golf or otherwise)!

The picture in question looked more like a shoe driving range rather than shoe golf.  And it was almost certainly a student activity.  But has anyone played a whole hole or even a whole round with a golf shoe rather than a ball?

I guess this qualifies for our ”Other Uses For A Golf Shoe” category!
